Madison Mueth played hero for the Eagles in Friday's second round matchup, coming through with a walk-off RBI single to drive in Hayden Roberts with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning. The victory sent the Eagles to the winner's bracket semifinal against Grand View.

In a back-and-forth game that saw Avila take three separate leads, the Eagles earned their second consecutive 8-inning victory over Central Methodist in the Heart Tournament, with the first coming last season in the Heart Championship game.

Avila plated the first run of the game when Hayden Roberts drove in Samantha Dexter to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead after one inning.

Eagle starter Kayleigh Behymer was fantastic in her first tournament start. The freshman shut out Central Methodist through the first three innings before giving up a solo home run to Heart Player of the Year Lauren Geringer in the fourth that tied the game.

Behymer's teammates picked her up in the bottom of the fourth, scoring a pair of runs to take a 3-1 lead. Pinch hitter Sam Castoldi drove in the first run of the inning, and then Araceli Juarez scored on a passed ball for the second run of the fourth inning.

The score remained the same until Central Methodist scored twice in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game, but reliever Tori Aziere got the final two outs of the inning with the bases loaded to keep the game tied.

After a scoreless seventh, Aziere kept CMU off the board in the eighth, setting up Mueth's heroics in the bottom half.

Hayden Roberts walked to lead off the inning, and then Madison Price bunted to move Roberts to second base with one out. After Kaycee Dexter flew out to shallow left, Mueth drove a pitch to left field, and Roberts raced home to give the Eagles the victory.

The Eagles ran into the buzz-saw that is Claudia Farrell in Friday's semifinal matchup against the Grand View Vikings, falling 6-0 to end their six-game Heart Tournament winning streak.

After four innings, the only runs of the game came when Lauren Poortinga hit a bloop single off the glove of a diving Abby King in center field with two outs in the second, scoring two runs to give Grand View a 2-0 lead.

Grand View added four more runs over the final three innings to build their lead to 6-0, which was more than enough for Farrell.

The Grand View ace surrendered six hits while striking out eleven and walking none in the complete game victory.

With the loss, the Eagles will now play in a rematch with the Central Methodist Eagles on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. in an elimination game. The winner will face Grand View in the Heart Championship game, while the loser will be finished in the Heart tournament.
