St. Joseph, MO - Avila's offense erupted for 15 hits as they blew past Culver-Stockton, 9-1, to reach the Heart Tournament semifinals for the third consecutive season. The victory was also the 100th for head coach Samantha Honeycutt in her young career.

The Eagles (33-21, 2-0 in Tournament) got a big confidence boost from starting pitcher Kayleigh Behymer, who struck out the side in the first inning to set the tone against a Culver-Stockton (24-25, 2-1 in Tournament) team that had beaten the Eagles four straight times prior to Thursday.

After Behymer's big first inning, Avila's Hayden Roberts got the offense going in the second, hitting a one out triple to put herself in scoring position. After Roberts was held up at third on a fielder's choice from Megan Manestar, she raced home on a passed ball to put Avila on top, 1-0. The Eagles then plated three more runs in the third inning, getting an RBI single from Kaycee Dexter and a 2-run single from Manestar to build a 4-0 lead over the Wildcats.

A four run lead was more than enough for Behymer, who dominated in the circle to pick up her nineteenth victory of the season. The sophomore, who also picked up the victory in Avila's first game of the day against Central Methodist, gave up just one run on two hits while striking out five and walking none as she pitched the Eagles into the semifinals against Evangel.

After each team plated a run in the fifth inning, the Eagles blew the game wide open by scoring four runs in the top of the sixth to build a 9-1 lead. Sam Castoldi singled and scored on Samantha Dexter's RBI double to make it a 6-1 game, and then after Emilee Biondo doubled to move Dexter to third, Kaycee Dexter hit Avila's third double of the inning to plate her sister and Biondo to make it 8-1. Hayden Roberts would join the party later in the inning, doubling home Dexter to make it 9-1.

Behymer got the Wildcats in order in the bottom of the sixth as the Eagles earned the victory via the spread rule.

Avila's win marked the 100th in the career of Avila Head Coach Samantha Honeycutt, who has compiled a record of 100-54-3 in her three seasons at Avila University. Honeycutt has reached 100 wins faster than any coach in program history, and has done so at a program that won just 100 total games from 2007-2014.

The Eagles will look to make it 101 for Coach Honeycutt when they do battle with the Evangel Crusaders in the semifinal round of the Heart Tournament on Friday at 3 p.m. The winner of that game moves on to the Heart Tournament Championship game at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, while the loser will play in the second semifinal at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
