Springfield, MO - The Eagles fell in their second game of the Heart Tournament on Friday, losing a tough one to No. 2 seed and fifteenth-ranked Central Methodist, 6-0 at US Ballpark.

Avila had no issues getting runners on base against Central Methodist, but they struggled mightily to pick up a hit with runners in scoring position, leaving ten on base in the loss. The Eagles also left the bases loaded twice in the loss.

The Eagles will play the loser of the Benedictine-MidAmerica Nazarene matchup on Saturday at 1 p.m. in an elimination game.

Avila starter Tyler Burrow pitched well for the Eagles on Friday, surrendering five earned runs over seven innings while striking out a career-high nine batters. Burrow also threw a career-high 127 pitches in the loss, likely putting to rest any thought of the junior hurler returning in the tournament unless the Eagles made it to Monday.

The Eagles managed just six hits in the game, with no player recording more than one hit, though they put together solid at bats, drawing a trio of walks in the game.

Avila struggled to get to Central Methodist starter Dariel Checo, who allowed nine base runners over 7.2 innings pitched, but always seemed to throw the right pitch with runners on base to keep Avila at bay. Checo struck out eight and tossed a career-high 134 pitches.

The game was scoreless until the third inning when Central Methodist plated 3 runs to build a 3-0 lead, and then CMU added single runs in the fifth, seventh and eighth to build a 6-0 lead.

Avila loaded the bases in the fifth and eighth innings, but failed to plate a run in both instances as they finished the game without a key hit.

The Eagles will look to regroup and get their offense back in order before their elimination game against either Benedictine or MidAmerica Nazarene on Saturday at 1 p.m. The game will be played at US Ballpark in Ozark, Mo.
