KANSAS CITY, Mo. - It was another tough day at The Z for the women's soccer team as they were blanked, 5-0, by the Missouri Valley Vikings on Saturday afternoon, becoming the fifth team to be shut out by MVC this season.

The Eagles (0-11, 0-5) and Vikings (5-4, 3-1) entered with similar offensive numbers this season, with both teams scoring seven of fewer goals entering play Saturday, but only one offense was able to find the net in this matchup.

The Vikings struck twice in the first half and then three more times in the second half to nearly double their goal total on the season, while the Eagles were unable to find the net for the fifth consecutive match. The defacto game winning goal came in the fifteenth minute when Missouri Valley's Julia Amador Mejias beat Avila's Stacy Schimmel to put the Eagles down, 1-0.

Despite giving up five goals, Schimmel had a solid performance as she made sixteen saves in Saturday's loss. Her sixteen saves were a career-high for the senior.

Schimmel was ambushed by the Missouri Valley offense, who finished with 30 shots in the match, including 22 shots on goal. Both statistics were season highs for the Vikings, who entered with 58 shots on goal this season.

Saturday was another trying day for the Avila offense as Missouri Valley controlled the ball from the start. The Eagles finished with just three shots on the day as they were shut out for the seventh time in eleven matches. It was expected to be a tough day for the offense as they were going up against one of the top defenses in the country in Missouri Valley. The Vikings entered giving up just eight goals on the season, and they now have three consecutive shutout victories.

Avila will return to action on October 3rd when they travel to take on the Evangel Crusaders at 12 p.m. in Springfield, Mo. The Eagles will then return to The Z next Saturday for a Senior Day matchup against William Penn at 1 p.m.
