KANSAS CITY, Mo. - It was another tough weekend for the volleyball team as they dropped road matches to Peru State and Graceland over the weekend, falling at Peru State Friday and at Graceland Saturday.

The Eagles (3-20, 1-9) entered the weekend with an opportunity to gain some momentum heading into what will be the lightest part of a loaded schedule this coming week, but they were unable to pick up a victory over Peru State (8-10, 6-3) or Graceland (9-10, 3-6).

Avila struggled in all facets of the game on Friday, scoring just 28 total points while falling in a sweep at Peru State. Freshman Elli Wright led the Eagles with 8 kills in the match, but the team finished with just 17 total in the loss.

Avila showed up much more prepared when they played Graceland on Saturday, coming back to take a two sets to one lead after dropping the first set, but the Yellowjackets closed out the fourth set on a 9-2 run to force a deciding fifth set. The Eagles held a two point lead on multiple occasions in the fifth, but they ultimately fell 14-16 to extend their losing streak to 14 matches. The five set loss on Saturday did snap the Eagles' seven match
Heart sweep streak.

Three Eagles finished with double digit kills in Saturday's match with Graceland, led by Laurel Dehn's 11. Freshman Elli Wright and Paige Rackers each had ten in the loss, and Wright added 19 digs to finish with a double-double.

Avila returns home on Tuesday night to host the Baker Wildcats at 7 p.m. inside Mabee Fieldhouse. The JV match is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. Avila will also host Culver-Stockton on Friday night at 6 p.m.
