KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Eagles held the No. 2 Missouri Valley Vikings to just one first half goal, but were unable to slow them down in the second half as they fell, 4-0, at The Z on Saturday.

Avila (5-6, 1-4) was up against a very tall task on Saturday as they welcomed the No. 2 Vikings (8-0-1, 4-0) to The Z, and much like their matchup earlier in the week with No. 16 Central Methodist, the second half is what did the Eagles in.

The Eagles held the Vikings to just a single goal in the first half, but the No. 2 team in the country showed their strength in the second half as they netted a trio of goals to take hand Avila their second consecutive 4-0 loss to a ranked opponent.

Avila goalkeeper Patrick Elliot played a great match on Saturday before leaving in the 54th minute with an injury. He made eight saves before leaving after getting injured on a Missouri Valley goal by Dominic Newton to make it a 2-0 score. Shelby Gifford replaced Elliot for the remainder of the match, giving up a pair of goals while making four saves.

The Eagles were dominated by the Vikings on the offensive end, finishing with just four shots in the loss. The Vikings finished with 36 shots, including 16 on goal in the victory.

Avila's lone true scoring opportunity came with them trailing 4-0 late in the second half when Javier Polermo-Tobar got past the Missouri Valley defense, but backup goalkeeper David Hernandez forced Tobar's attempt to go wide and the Eagles were unable to capitalize.

The Eagles will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to take on the much improved Evangel Crusaders at 2 p.m. in Springfield, Mo.
