OSKALOOSA, Ia. - The Eagles failed to score an offensive touchdown in their 34-7 loss to the William Penn Statesmen on Saturday in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

The Avila offense struggled from the first snap on Saturday as they were able to gain just 96 total offensive yards against a tough William Penn defense. The lack of offense overshadowed what was actually a very solid performance from the Eagles' defense as they held the Statesmen to just 13 first half points.

Avila's lone touchdown came on a 79-yard punt return by Malik Dungee late in the fourth quarter. Dungee had a total of 87 return yards on Saturday to go with a three yard reception.

Senior linebacker Ty Larsen had a career day for the Eagles, racking up 25 tackles in Saturday's loss to William Penn. Larsen's 25 tackles set a new single game program record, and the senior more than doubled his season total as he entered Saturday with 24 tackles on the season. Jamad Thomas also had a career day for the Eagles, adding a career-high 13 tackles in the loss.

The Avila defense did all they could on Saturday to keep the team in the game, but the team's struggles on offense and in the special teams proved too much as the Statesmen repeatedly took over with great field position. especially in the second half. Avila picked off two William Penn passes on Saturday, and forced two fumbles, though the Statesmen recovered both.

The Eagles were outgained, 419-96 in the game, and ran just 48 offensive plays compared to 86 for the Statesmen.

Avila will have a bye next weekend before returning to the field on October 14th when they travel to take on the Missouri Valley Vikings at 2 p.m. in Marshall, Mo.
