SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Eagles surrendered a pair of early first half goals on Tuesday against Evangel that proved to be costly as they fell, 2-1, to the Crusaders in Springfield, Mo.

The Eagles (5-7, 1-5) gave up goals in the 12th and 26th minutes to dig themselves into an early hole against Evangel (3-9, 1-5), and they were unable to complete the comeback in the second half, netting just a single goal off the foot of Matt Hodges.

Hodges found the net for the Eagles in the 81st minute, scoring off of an assist from Javier Polermo-Tobar for his first career goal.

Avila got off to an uncharacteristically slow start on Tuesday, taking just two shots in the first half as they found themselves trailing Evangel, 2-0 at the break. The Eagles flipped the script in the second half, taking 12 shots, eight of which were on goal, which did lead to their only goal of the match.

Evangel took advantage of Avila's slow start, taking an early lead in the 12th minute when Caleb Rodriguez beat Avila goalie Patrick Elliot. The goal was the first of the season for Rodriguez, with the assist going to Kyler Moore. Rodriguez was very active for Evangel, taking four shots in the match, with three being on goal. The Crusaders made it 2-0 in the 26th minute when Austin Reinold found the net.

The loss was the third straight for the Eagles, who fell to just 1-5 in Heart play this season. The win was Evangel's first in Heart play.

Avila returns to action this Saturday when they host the William Penn Statesmen at 3:30 p.m. for Senior Day.
