BASEBALL NAMED KCAC TEAM OF CHARACTER

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Avila baseball program has been named the recipient of the 2025 KCAC Team of Character Award, the conference announced today.

This season, the Eagle baseball program participated in a number of events off the diamond and played an integral leadership role across the Avila campus, most notably using their credibility that has been earned on campus to influence and stop derogatory treatment towards an opposing player from the stands.

“I am truly honored and humbled for our boys to receive this recognition,” said Avila Head Coach Matt Carpenter. “As important as it is to be successful on the field, it is just as important to have success off of it. This award is an incredible honor for our program and I am very proud to share it with our team.”

Avila baseball student-athletes have participated in winter camps in the community and summer and fall camps on campus and have helped elderly or disadvantaged members of the community. For seven weekends this winter, members of the team helped at a youth baseball academy and have had several players serve as volunteers for the Daryl Cronk DASH Foundation Golf Tournament, which raises money for underprivileged children in the community.

In addition to all off-campus events, Carpenter’s program also served as the go-to team on campus to help facilitate home events for other Avila teams on campus.

“This award is one of one of the most special honors a team can receive,” said Avila Athletics Director Shawn Summe. “I am incredibly proud of Coach Carpenter and his team. They are unbelievably deserving and I could not be happier for this recognition.”
