Football: 7 Eagles earn All-Heart Accolades
Kansas City, MO - The Heart of America Athletic Conference announced their North and South All-Heart teams on Monday, with 7 Eagles making the list for the South Division.
Avila's lone First Team selection was freshman return specialist Naeem Moore, who was Top 10 in the nation in total return yards with 749 and return yards per attempt with 28.8. Moore becomes the first freshman to earn First Team honors since Alyn Jackson in 2010.
Three Eagles were named to the Second Team; Luke Oldham, Juan Salazar and Demonte McClary.
Oldham, a senior tight end and four year starter for the Eagles, finished the season with 36 catches for 399 yards and a touchdown on the season, and is Avila's all-time leader for receptions (125), yards (1,257) and touchdowns (8) from the tight end position.
Salazar, a senior offensive lineman for the Eagles, was an anchor all season on a line that was plagued by injuries.
McClary, a running back from Carrollton, Va. led the Eagles in rushing touchdowns (6), yards per attempt (5.0) and rushing yards (694) in his senior campaign despite missing one game and playing through multiple injuries throughout the season. McClary finished his career with 1,010 yards and 8 touchdowns.
Two Eagles, Wyatt Beebe and Aaron Wiggins, earned Honorable Mention honors this season. Beebe and Wiggins, both linebackers, finished as the top two tacklers in the Heart.
Beebe finished with a program record 147 tackles, while Wiggins finished with 111 tackles, third most in a season all-time. Beebe and Wiggins became the first pair of Eagles to finish first and second in the Heart in tackles, and are also just the second and third to eclipse 100 tackles in a single season in program history.
Joining Beebe and Wiggins on the Honorable Mention list was senior offensive lineman Clayton Driskill. Driskill, when healthy, was one of Avila's top run blockers this season.
