FOOTBALL DROPS TO 0-2 WITH HOME OPENER LOSS TO FRIENDS

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The first time on their home turf in 2025 did not go Avila football's way on Saturday, falling to the Friends Falcons, 62-7.

Avila could not have gotten off to a better start in the home portion of their season. The Eagle defense forced a Falcon fumble on the third play from scrimmage. Two plays later, Avila quarterback Duce Taylor found Seth Meyers for a 21-yard touchdown pitch and catch to give Avila a 7-0 lead. It was the second time that Taylor has found Myers in as many games this season.

However, the quick turnover and score in the first two minutes of play was as good as it got for Avila.

Friends answered back immediately, with four touchdowns on their ensuing four possessions of the first quarter.

Avila's defense forced two more fumbles early in the second quarter but the offense was unable to capitalize as the teams entered halftime with Friends holding a 34-7 lead.

The Falcons put up 14 points each in the third and fourth quarters to finalize the scoreline.

Friends dominated the offensive stats, putting up 520 yards on the ground as Avila was unable to get back in the contest.

Avila is back in action and will attempt to get into the win column on September 13 at Kansas Wesleyan before returning to The Z the following weekend for homecoming against Saint Mary at 1 PM on September 20.
