LATE TOUCHDOWN NOT ENOUGH AS FOOTBALL LOSES AT KWU

SALINA, Kan. – Avila football was unable to get in the win column on Saturday evening, falling on the road to Kansas Wesleyan, 30-6.

Both teams alternated punts to open the game before KWU got on the scoreboard first with an 11-yard touchdown pass.

The Eagles nearly answered back on the next possession before Juan Delgado-Medina's 35-yard field goal attempt was blocked and returned for a Coyote touchdown.

Another punt from Avila preceded a KWU made field goal as the finale of first-half scoring. Entering halftime, Avila trailed 17-0.

On its first possession of the second half, Kansas Wesleyan picked up another touchdown – this time on the ground – to extend the lead to 24-0.

The Coyotes put up another touchdown on the ground two possessions later before Avila got on the scoreboard.

Midway through the fourth quarter, Avila's Kasaun Graham ran it in from six yards out before a missed PAT saw Avila cut the lead to 30-6.

That was all the offense that either offense would muster for the remainder of the game as Avila heads back to Kansas City 0-3.

Avila was able to pick up solid offensive yardage throughout the game, ending the game with 142 yards on the ground while QB Duce Taylor threw for 132 yards.

On the defensive end, Joshua Robinson led all defenders with 10 tackles while the remainder of the Eagle defense put up four tackles for loss.

In search of its first win of 2025, the Eagles will host Saint Mary next Saturday, September 20 for Homecoming. Kickoff from The Z is slated for 1 PM.
