FOOTBALL DROPS SIXTH-STRAIGHT

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The powerful offense of No. 18 Southwestern was no match for Avila on Saturday afternoon at The Z, with the Moundbuilders winning 62-0.

Southwestern put up 31 points in each half en route to 614 yards of total offense.

The Moundbuilders started the game with a 21-yard fake punt rush and immediately followed that up with a 37-yard touchdown pass on the first drive of the game to get an early 7-0 lead. From there, they would not look back.

The few bright spots for Avila came from sophomore running back Caleb Ka'ai, who broke a run for 26 yards in the fourth quarter. In addition to Ka'ai's big run, wide receiver Laquanta Crawford hauled in a pass for 27 yards late in the game to add to his two catches for 38-yard total.

Tristen Hood punted the ball eight times for an average of 43.4 yards, with three landing inside the 20 and a long of 65.

Following the KCAC bye week, Avila will be back in action on October 18 at Bethany before returning to Kansas City on October 25 versus Evangel at 1 PM.
