KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Avila football was unable to win back-to-back games on Saturday at The Z, falling to Evangel, 58-0.
Evangel got on the board first, scoring on a two-yard pass on their first drive of the game.
Following an Avila punt, the Eagles picked off an Evangel pass on the first play of the ensuing drive. Shamar Scruggs intercepted Reid Potts' pass and returned it 20 yards for the lone Avila takeaway of the game.
Unfortunately for Avila, the offense was unable to capitalize and punted the ball back to the Valor.
Evangel added two touchdowns – including one on defense – and a field goal in first half to enter halftime with a 24-0 lead.
The Valor would cross the goal line five times in the second half – two through the air and three on the ground – to wrap up the 58-0 scoreline.
Quentin Curtis led the Eagles offense on the day, registering 66 yards of total offense, while Joshua Robinson led Avila on the defensive end, notching 11 tackles, including a tackle for loss.
With three games remaining, Avila heads on the road for two-straight. On November 1, Avila travels to Bethel to take on the Threshers for a 1 PM kickoff.
