Avila Basketball Adjusts Thanksgiving Week Schedule
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Both Avila basketball teams have reworked their schedules for Thanksgiving week, the week of November 23, 2020, the Avila University Department of Athletics announced today, Wednesday, November 25.
Avila women's basketball will be ready to hit the court for the first time in three weeks when the Eagles return to Mabee Fieldhouse to take on preseason KCAC favorites Sterling on Saturday. The Lady Warriors have lived up to the hype thus far this season, while the Eagles will try to build off a quality win at home against Bethel from earlier this month. Tipoff between Avila and Sterling is slated for 1 PM on Saturday, November 28. Per our 2020 fan guidelines as well as Kansas City instructions, attendance will be capped at 312 spectators. Tickets will be available at the gate. For those unable to attend, live stats and video will be available, as always, on the Avila Sports Network.
That game between the Avila women and Sterling will lead into Game 2 of the 2020 Negro Leagues Baseball Museum Tipoff Classic at 4 PM. Speaking of the first annual Tipoff Classic, Avila men's basketball was originally lined up to participate in the event the university is hosting, but, in accordance with NCAA Division I COVID-19 testing protocols, the Eagles are now unable to participate. The tournament itself is still on as scheduled; the three-day event will now tip off on Friday at 4 PM.
Due to similar factors, Eagle men's basketball has had to postpone its two conference games slated for this week: Tuesday's game at Southwestern, and Saturday's home game against Sterling. Make-up dates for those two tilts will be announced when they are available.
