Avila Takes on Local Division One Foe Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Avila men's basketball played the first of its six games against NCAA competition on Monday night, making the short trip up north into Kansas City proper to take on the Roos in an exhibition match for the Eagles. The Roos won their season opener by defeating the Eagles 79-48.

Avila showed some serious improvement from its first game of the year against a strong NAIA school in Columbia, even against a squad from the so-called highest level of college athletics. The game featured two ties and six lead changes as Avila more than kept pace early before KC finally seized control down the stretch of the first half and walked away with a win.

Jamar Brown led the Roos with 16 points, six rebounds and four assists, with Anderson Kopp right behind with 15 points. Jaren Miller paced the Eagles with ten points on the bench and James Ross III added nine; Matthew Boldt had another solid all-around day with six points, eight rebounds, an assist and a block.

Up next, Avila will face yet another different kind of opponent when the Eagles travel over to Manhattan, Kansas to take on NCCAA foe Manhattan Christian on Wednesday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 PM; you can find ways to watch and follow along on our website, avilaathletics.com.
