HOT HASKELL SECOND HALF DOOMS AVILA MEN’S BASKETBALL

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Avila men's basketball was back on the road Thursday night, crossing the state line to play in the Ernie Stevens Jr. Basketball Classic, facing Haskell.

Both teams had a tough time finding the basket in the first half, but Avila held a 24-17 lead after the first 20 minutes.

The second half is where Haskell took control of the game, outscoring the Eagles 49-33 coming out of halftime.

Avila held an 11-point lead at the 13-minute mark of the second half before Haskell closed the game out on a 35-15 run.

The Eagles couldn't get anything going from three-point range, shooting just 17 percent on the night. Avila led in nearly every other statistical category, but a poor shooting percentage doomed the Eagles.

Brionne Williams (14) and Xavier Kahube (13) both scored in double-figures off the bench for Avila.

Avila will travel to the east side of Missouri on Sunday to play an exhibition against St. Louis University before returning to Mabee Fieldhouse on Tuesday to take on Manhattan Christian at 6 PM.
