MEN’S BASKETBALL COMES UP JUST SHORT AT MCPHERSON

McPHERSON, Kan. – A big second half was not enough for Avila men's basketball as the Eagles fell at McPherson on Saturday afternoon, 87-83.

The Eagles were able to fight back from a 12-point halftime deficit to cut it to within three with less than a minute remaining.

With McPherson shooting free throws attempting to ice the game, the Bulldogs missed the second, and Jordan Majeed made a layup with eight seconds remaining to make it a three-point game again.

McPherson knocked down one of its next two free throws and a Joe Kearney missed three-pointer as the clock was winding down settled the four-point Avila loss.

Avila outscored McPherson in the final 20, 53-45.

The offensive star of the game for Avila was guard Brennan Jeffries, who put up a career-best 27 points with seven made free throws. The Jefferson City native added eight rebounds and two assists to his effort.

Robert Lee III notched a 10-point, nine-rebound effort. Majeed (14) and Kearney (12) added double-figure scoring nights of their own.

Avila will look to get back in the win column on Wednesday night at York at 8 PM.
