COLD SHOOTING SECOND HALF HURTS MENS BASKETBALL IN LOSS AT EVANGEL

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Avila men's basketball was unable to get many shots to fall coming out of the halftime locker room on Wednesday at Evangel, losing to the Valor, 82-61.

The Eagles and Valor played a close first half with the two teams trading baskets back and forth – especially late in the half – in the opening 20 minutes, entering halftime with Evangel leading 36-33.

Evangel kept itself in the game in the first half thanks to 11 offensive rebounds – 15 total in the game – and 16 second-chance points throughout the contest.

Avila was unable to bring any momentum into the second half, shooting under 30 percent and only knocking down three shots from long-range.

Evangel took their small halftime lead and ran with it in the second half, putting Avila away.

Gio Mack (16) and Blessing Nwotite (15) led Avila in scoring. 

Avila will be back at home on Saturday, taking on McPherson from Mabee Fieldhouse at 3 PM.
