Stewart Earns First Team All-KCAC Honors
Bryce Stewart authored an impressive finish to his Avila bowling career, becoming the first Eagle in Avila men's bowling history to earn First Team All-KCAC status, the conference announced this week.
Unlike in other sports where the All-Conference teams are determined by votes from the conference's head coaches, the KCAC bowling All-Conference teams are determined much like All-Tournament teams at weekend events are: the athletes with the five highest averages at the events all of the conference schools competed in are named First Team All-KCAC, while the athletes with the next five highest averages are named Second Team All-KCAC.
And Stewart certainly made his mark as one of the top bowlers in the conference, in countable events and overall. One of the founding members of the squad ahead of the 2021-22 season, Stewart took major strides forward in his senior season, leading the Eagles with a season average of 195.08, by far a career high, more than 15 points better than his total from last season.
Stewart was the only Eagle to finish in the top ten of an event this season, and that came in the form of a seventh-place finish at Avila's own Eagle Invitational in January where he missed out on a spot in the All-Tournament team by 20 pins. Still, in that event, he finished better than 95% of the field and averaged 209.6 over five team games, one of three events this year where he shot 200 or better.
In events that count towards All-Conference consideration, the senior from Kansas City recorded the fourth-highest average of any athlete from a KCAC school, which earned him a spot on the KCAC First Team. He is the first athlete in program history to achieve that status; Evan Serrage and Nick Hays were both Second Team selections in 2022-23. Ottawa's Matt Lennox recorded the highest average in those competitions, netting him Player of the Year accolades.
