BOWLING OPENS SEASON AT MID STATES CHAMPIONSHIPS

WICHITA, Kan. – Avila bowling began its fifth season in program history over the weekend at the Mid States Championships. Both the men's and women's programs started the campaign with strong showings.

After the opening day on Saturday, the Avila men were in seventh place – out of 29 teams, including number Division I programs – with a total score of 5,826.

Avila's Brody Stanback, after day one, finished in ninth place with an average of 214.83. in addition to Stanback's top-10 finish, Nicolas Garza had a strong showing with a 195.67 average on the opening day, good for No. 34.

After Sunday's competition, the men finished No. 11 in the tournament, with a score of 8.640.

The Avila women finished in 11th place in their season opener with a 7,713 output.

Next weekend, both Eagle programs will travel to Lawrence, Kan., to participate in the two-day Jayhawk Invitational.
