STANBACK SETS AVILA RECORD AT JAYHAWK MATCHPLAY
LAWRENCE, Kan. – In its second competition of the year, Avila bowling is already putting up an impressive season.
Senior Brody Stanback set an Avila program record on Saturday at the Jayhawk Matchplay, averaging a score of 232 for five games while finishing a very close second to Division I competition.
Stanback bowled an incredible 258 in his second game and finished just eight total pins shy of Carter Street of Wichita State on Saturday afternoon.
Outside of Stanback's record-setting performance, Nic Garza finished just outside the top-20 at No. 21 with a five-game average of 204.8.
As a team on Saturday, the men of Avila finished in fourth place.
On the women's side, Kiara Gonzalez finished in 10th place with an average of 178 on Saturday. She was joined by Fiona West, who wrapped up at No. 25, with a score of 169.4.
Day Two of the competition on Sunday saw the Avila men defeat Baker, 246-243 in a tight affair before falling to Wichita State in their second game of match play.
The women played tough and stuck around before falling to UCM to wrap up the weekend for the Eagles on the other side of the state line.
Both programs are back in action on November 14 and 15 at the NAIA West Regional in Topeka, Kan.
