STRONG SUNDAY FOR MEN’S BOWLING WRAPS UP SUCCESSFUL WEEKEND AT NAIA WEST REGIONAL

LAWRENCE/TOPEKA, Kan. – In their penultimate competition of the regular season, Avila bowling had a solid weekend at the NAIA West Regional across the state line in Topeka and Lawrence, Kan., on Saturday and Sunday.

In Day One of the tournament on Saturday, the men's side finished ninth with a 4,777 total pinfall. Nic Garza led the way individually for the Eagles, averaging 200.6, with Garrett Messenger close behind with a 197.2 average.

On the women's side, underclassmen led the way with freshman Fiona West holding strong with a five-game average of 179.6 followed by sophomore Olivia Smith, who averaged 167.3.

As a team, the Avila women wrapped up Day One at No. 11, with a final score of 4,176.

Day Two was saw stronger performances from the men, who finished 8-2 in 10 total games, tied with Kansas Wesleyan for the highest win total of the day. The Eagle women wrapped up the second day going 6-4.

In 25 Baker games, the men finished in fifth place with 4,755 total pins, while the women finished No. 10.

The Eagles have one more regular season competition coming up next weekend, heading to the two-day Hoosier Classic in Indianapolis on Saturday and Sunday in preparation for the KCAC Championships the following weekend.
