Golf Preview: OU Fall Invitational
Kansas City, MO - The 2016-17 men's and women's golf season is set to begin this week as the teams will travel to Lawrence, Kansas on Monday and Tuesday to compete in the Ottawa University Fall Invitational at Eagle Bend Golf Course.
The Eagles enter the season with some great leadership on both the men's and women's teams, led by seniors Grace Miller and Corey Cochran on the women's side and Jackson Gurley and Taylor Livingston on the men's side.
Miller and Cochran, both natives of Topeka, Kansas, had solid spring campaigns for the golf program, and will look to help the women's program take another step forward this season. The Eagles will also be relying heavily on junior Shelby Watkins, who had a very solid spring.
Watkins earned a second place finish at the CMU Eagle Open back on April 19th, the best finish of her career. Her performance helped the Eagles to a third place finish in the Open.
Gurley and Livingston on the men's side were the most consistent Eagles in 2015-16, and will look to lead the men's program similarly to the trio of Miller, Cochran and Watkins on the women's side.
Gurley's tools on the golf course are good enough to where he could be looking at a breakout senior campaign, and Livingston's ability to place the ball on his approach will be a key for him entering the season.
