KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Despite a career-high 18 saves from Harrison Ennis – Avila's highest single-game total in more than five years – Avila men's soccer fell to the No. 1 team in the country, Oklahoma Wesleyan, on Wednesday afternoon, 3-0.
Oklahoma Wesleyan scored in the 11th minute and added another in the 25th to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
The visitors would add one more just out of halftime to finalize the 3-0 scoreline.
Even with three goals allowed, Ennis, the senior goalkeeper, had one of his best games in an Avila uniform, stopping 18 OKWU shots – including a first-half penalty kick opportunity.
Oklahoma Wesleyan, who entered the game third in the NAIA in goals scored, amassed 36 total shots in the game and had six corner kick opportunities, but were held to just three goals.
Avila's Malcolm Goswell had two scoring opportunities in the second half, but the senior's shots sailed just wide of the goal.
Currently sitting at five wins on the season with one game remaining, Avila will look to get its highest win total in a season since the 2014 campaign as the Eagles travel to Kansas Wesleyan to wrap up the season on Saturday. Kickoff from Salina is slated for 5 PM.
