AXEL SCOTT NAMED KCAC MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After a tremendous weekend in Illinois, Avila freshman Axel Scott has been named the KCAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced today.

Scott went 4-0, winning both of his singles and doubles matches this weekend against NCAA D-III Illinois College on Friday and Kaskaskia College on Saturday afternoon.

"Axel is an amazing person and player and he is earning great success as a freshman playing #1," said Head Coach Jon Renberger. "Simply stated, he is a joy to coach and watch play because of his fierce competitiveness and obvious love of tennis. All weekend, opposing coaches, players and even their parents commented on how impressed they were by his effort and skill and I could not be more proud."

Scott won each of his #1 singles matches this weekend, 6-0, 6-1, and teamed with Daniel Lozano to sweep both of their #1 doubles matches against Illinois College and Kaskaskia College.

Scott played an integral role in Avila’s 6-1 win on Friday and 7-0 victory on Saturday.

This is the first Avila tennis Player of the Week selection since Robert Davies in March 2025.

Scott and his Eagles teammates will open up the spring conference season on Thursday at Tabor beginning at 2 PM.
