Eagles Release Inaugural Track & Field Schedule
Kansas City, MO – After months of careful thought and consideration, Avila University and head men's and women's track and field coach Anthony Boyer have released the first schedule in the program's history.
The 2015 track and field schedule is the same for both the men's and women's team, and most events are all-day events, so times are not typically listed.
January marks the beginning of the road for the track program at Avila University, and Coach Boyer said that he cannot wait for the calendar to flip over to 2015.
"It definitely took some time, but the schedule is ready to go, and I'm so excited for my athletes, Boyer said. "Now that we know when this journey is going to begin, I cannot stop counting the days until that first meet on the (January) 24th."
The Eagles will open the indoor season on January 24, 2015 at the Snow Bird Open on the campus of Illinois College in Jacksonville, Ill. According to the Illinois College website, the meet will begin at 11 a.m.
Avila will then return closer to home six days later on Jan. 30 to compete at the JCCC Invitational on the campus of Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kan. After JCCC, the Eagles will head back to Jacksonville, Ill. for another meet at Illinois College.
After a couple of weeks off, the Eagles will then compete in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championships on Feb. 20-21 on the campus of Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa. Then, if any of the athletes qualify, they will compete in the NAIA Indoor National Championships in Geneva, Ohio, which take place March 5-7.
Boyer said that the indoor schedule should be a fun one for him and his athletes.
"I think the indoor portion of our schedule will fit us pretty well," he said. "I am familiar with the Snow Bird Open from my time at William Woods, and then JCCC will be good because it is more local. I think going back to Jacksonville a second time will also be good for us because it will prepare us for the HAAC Championships."
The outdoor season will begin for the Eagles on March 14 at the Ottawa University Invitational in Ottawa, Kan. Then, Avila will have a quick turnaround and participate in the Park Open on March 17 at Park University in Parkville, Mo.
After a ten day break, the Eagles will have meets in five straight weekends, beginning March 28 at the ESU Invitational at Emporia State University, and ending April 25 at the Wildcat Open in Baldwin City, Kan. on the campus of Baker University. Between the two meets, the Eagles will compete in the Baker Relays on April 4, the William Jewel Relays on April 11, and the Mule Relays on April 17.
The HAAC Outdoor Championships will take place from April 30 through May 2 in Fayette, Mo. on the campus of Central Methodist University, and if any Eagles qualify, the NAIA Outdoor National Championships will take place May 21-23 in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
