Track & Field Preview: Snow Bird Open

Kansas City, MO – Saturday will be a historic day for the Avila men's and women's track team as they will compete in the programs first ever meet, the Snow Bird Open, in Jacksonville, Ill.

The Eagles will have six athletes compete on Saturday at the Snow Bird Open, including four female and two male athletes. The four female athletes will be Jenna Rangel, Sara Montgomery, Karli Wilson, and Sarah Krig. The two male athletes set to compete will be Matt Scaletty and Kainon Clark.

According to the schedule of events, known as a heat sheet, Sarah Krig will have the honor of being the first Avila track athlete to compete in a track event for the track team. Krig is scheduled to run the 60 Meter Hurdles in heat 1 of 3 in the prelims on Saturday morning. The Women's 60 Meter Hurdles are the third scheduled event of the day at the Snow Bird Open. Krig is also scheduled to compete in the Women's Shot Put.

Jenna Rangel, Sara Montgomery and Karli Wilson will all compete in the Women's 200 Meter Dash and Women's 400 Meter Dash, and Rangel will also compete in the Women's 60 Meter Dash, making her the only female athlete to compete in more than 2 events.

On the men's side, freshman Matt Scaletty will be the first Eagle to compete, running in Heat 3 of the Men's 60 Meter Dash. Scaletty will also run in two other events; the Men's 200 Meter Dash and the Men's 400 Meter Dash.

Kainon Clark, Avila's other men's athlete, will compete in the Men's Shot Put and Men's Weight Throw on Saturday. Both events are scheduled to take place later in the afternoon on Saturday.
