Track & Field: Men's Heart Championship Preview

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Baker will look to claim its fifth-straight team championship when the 2016 Heart of America Athletic Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships take place February 12-13 at the Fuhrer Fieldhouse on the campus of Doane College in Crete, Neb. MEET SCHEDULE

The Wildcats will be part of a field of 13 teams for the first time in conference history. MidAmerica Nazarene returns to the conference championship for the first time since 2008, while Grand View and William Penn will be part of their first championship events. Clarke and Mount Mercy will also be competing as both institutions get have been accepted as members and begin competition in all sports in 2016-17.

The largest field in conference history will compete at a neutral site in one of the last chances to qualify for the 2016 NAIA Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships, scheduled for March 3-5 at the David E. Walker Track at Gentry Field in Johnson City, Tenn.

Three distance events return champions from last season as Phillip Cheruiyot of Missouri Valley will look to defend his titles in the 3,000 and 5,000 meters. Doug Hutcherson from Central Methodist also returns to try and win another crown in the 3,000-meter race walk.

Other defending champions likely to compete in running events are ZaKorey Barr of Evangel (60m), Adrian Sanchez of Culver-Stockton (200m, 400m), Aaron Peace of Evangel (600 yard), John Danner of Benedictine (800m). Among the defending champions in the field events are Joshua Peck of Baker (Weight Throw, Shot Put), Paul Hill of Graceland (Pole Vault), and Tirrell Brooks of Graceland (Long Jump).
