KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Avila men's volleyball had another promising showing on Saturday in a four-set loss to Clarke, 3-1.
The Eagles got off to a strong start, taking the opener, 29-27.
Despite being down 3-0 early, Avila quickly went on a 5-1 run to take control of the set and lead 5-3.
A 5-0 Clarke run midway through the set swung momentum before the frame continued its trend of runs as the two teams headed to extras.
Tied at 24-24, the squads alternated points, before Avila wrapped the set up with a kill from Rylan Murphy and an attack error from Clarke gave the Eagles the 29-27 first-set win.
The Pride would take the final three sets, 25-19, 25-17 and 25-15 to take the match.
Sebastian Williams led the Eagles with 10 kills while Alan Uncal-Ramirez had 14 assists and Darren Zheng led the team with 14 digs.
Avila is back at Mabee Fieldhouse on Tuesday as they take on No. 3 Park.
