TWO CHAMPIONS, NINE PLACERS FOR MEN’S WRESTLING AT BENEDICTINE SERVICE SALUTE

ATCHISON, Kan. – In their second week of the season, Avila men's wrestling had a big showing at the Benedictine Service Salute on Saturday, with Rodney Trotter Jr., (197) and Tyler Johnson (141) both taking first in their respective weight classes. Additionally, Avila had seven other placers among its 17 student-athletes to compete.

In the 141-pound class, senior Tyler Johnson took first place, going 4-0 on the afternoon with a pair of major decision victories, a fall in 5:53 and a 6-3 decision in the championship round.

The Eagles other champion was Rodney Trotter Jr., who went 3-0 and took first place in the 197-pound division. Trotter Jr. won his bracket with two wins via fall and a third coming via tech fall.

In addition to Johnson and Trotter Jr., Avila had seven other placers on the campus of Benedictine University, including three wrestlers who wrapped up their day as runner up in their brackets.

Daniel Vines went 3-1 on the day in the 141-pound class, with his only loss coming to his teammate, Tyler Johnson, in the championship round. Vines' three wins came via fall, decision and tech fall.

Dru Thomas also came in second place for the Eagles, finishing his day 3-1 with two tech fall wins and a third coming from a fall in 4:43.

Avila's third runner up was Jeremiah Voliva. Voliva wrapped up his strong day going 3-1 with a fall in under a minute, an 8-2 decision and a tech fall victory before losing via 2-5 decision in his championship round in the 184-pound class.

Avila's four other placers were Raul Romero (2-2, 125 pounds), Cam Morris (2-3, 174 pounds), Dom Howlett (4-1, 174 pounds), and Corey Holmes (2-2, 184 pounds).
