Campbell is Avila’s Fifth KCAC Softball Weekly Honoree
After the best week of her freshman campaign, catcher Hallie Campbell was named the KCAC Softball Player of the Week for the week of April 1-7, the conference announced this week. Campbell is now the fifth Eagle to earn a weekly honor from the KCAC this season, and the third in a row.
It would've been tough for anyone else in the league to match what Hallie Campbell achieved last week. Campbell led the Eagles in every category, slashing a robust .714/.667/1.286 (average/on-base/slugging), the rare occasion where her batting average was so good (10-for-14 on the week) that it was actually higher than her on-base percentage, which was still excellent.
Of her ten hits over Avila's four games last week, five were doubles, and one was a grand slam home run in the early stages of game one against McPherson. In fact, she doubled in all four games last week and drove in a total of eight runs while scoring three.
Campbell doubled twice and drove in two runs in Avila's pair of defeats against Ottawa, but also threw out Brave centerfielder Macy Roever trying to steal twice, which is no easy feat.
Avila needed a bounce-back after losing twice to the Braves, and against the Bulldogs that's exactly what Campbell provided. She went 7-of-8 with three doubles and six RBI in that series alone, helping Avila to a pair of comfortable wins. She also saw some time at third base for the first time this season in that series, and played error-free ball over those two games.
The freshman from Nampa, Idaho is now the fifth Eagle to earn weekly softball honors from the KCAC this season. Four of the last five KCAC Players of the Week play for the team from Kansas City, including the last three in a row: Campbell joins Ka'Zem Wood, Brooke Belflower and Stephanie Hayes as KCAC Players of the Week, and McKayla Cotton was named Pitcher of the Week after the second week of the campaign.
You can catch Campbell and the rest of the Eagles back at home at The Z when Avila welcomes Kansas Wesleyan to town for a KCAC doubleheader this Saturday, April 13. Action begins at noon, and, as always, you can watch everything live and for free on the Avila Sports Network.
