VARSITY RESERVE SOFTBALL WINS BACK-TO-BACK KCAC DEVELOPMENTAL TOURNAMENT TITLES
SALINA, Kan. – Avila Varsity Reserve Softball won the KCAC Developmental Softball Tournament on Sunday, going 2-0 on the Kansas Wesleyan campus to bring home their second-straight tournament title.
The Eagles defeated Ottawa, 9-1 in five innings and went on to beat Kansas Wesleyan, 12-3, in the championship game.
In game one’s victory, the battery of Faith Heaster and Sophia Medina threw a complete game to propel Avila to victory. On the offensive end, Avila scored two runs each in the first and second and followed that up with a three-run fourth inning and a two-run fourth to help Heaster secure the win.
Game two’s victory over KWU began with Avila trailing after the first inning following a three-run inning by the Coyotes. Avila’s offense put up two in the second inning, three in the third to take the lead and added a four-run fourth inning and a three-run fifth to secure the win.
In the circle, Addison Hassett tossed two innings to start the game and Aarilynn Richardson threw three shutout innings to close the game out.
After Medina caught game one from Heaster, Zoleecia Grayson caught all five innings from Hassett and Richardson in game two to secure the tournament title.
