BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – A four-point first-quarter doomed Avila women's basketball in a 71-48 loss at Oklahoma Wesleyan on Wednesday night.
The Eagles were never able to overcome their slow start as Avila could only manage seven made field goals in the opening 20 minutes.
OKWU had four players in double figures as they controlled the game from the opening tip.
Oklahoma Wesleyan forced 22 Avila turnovers and dominated down low, outscoring Avila in the paint 50-28.
Avila's Madilyn Melton recorded a double-double in the contest, dropping 15 points and 12 rebounds – both team highs.
The Eagles are back at Mabee Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon against Southwestern. Tipoff is slated for 1 PM.
