COLD THIRD QUARTER HURTS WOMEN’S BASKETBALL’S QUEST FOR THREE-STRAIGHT

HILLSBORO, Kan. – After winning back-to-back games at home, Avila women's basketball closed out the conference portion of 2024 calendar at Tabor on Saturday afternoon. While playing three solid quarters of basketball, a cold-shooting third quarter hindered the team's chances.

The two teams were tied after one quarter and Avila hung tough in the second, entering halftime trailing by just three – 32-29 – to the KCAC's second-ranked team.

Coming out of the halftime locker room is where the game was decided. Avila was only able to shoot 25 percent from the floor in the third quarter and the Bluejays outscored the Eagles 25-12.

Avila came back in the fourth quarter, putting up a game-high 24 points, but it was not enough, falling at Tabor, 80-65.

The Eagles were led in scoring for the second game in a row by Eireon Adams, with 17 off the bench. Hannah Smith put up 16 of her own in 29 minutes, while Kathleen Stanley led all players on the defensive end with four steals.

Avila will take a holiday trip next week, playing in two games in Ave Maria, Fla., first facing off against Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday at 3 PM CT.
