TURNOVERS GIVE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL LOSS AT BETHEL

NORTH NEWTON, Kan. – Back in action for the first time in three weeks, Avila women's basketball fell 77-58 at Bethel on Saturday afternoon.  

The long holiday break saw Avila come out sluggish as the Eagles committed 27 turnovers and shot just 36 percent from the floor on the way to the loss.

It was a tight first half, as Avila trailed by four after the first quarter. The Eagles would go on to outscore the Threshers by three in the second quarter to enter the halftime break down by just one.

Bethel came out strong in the second half, outscoring Avila by 18 in the final 20 minutes.

The game was lost in the details for the Eagles, turning the ball over 20 times and only managing five shots from deep. Bethel outrebounded Avila 36-28 and outscored the Eagles 50-29 in the paint.

Marlie Wright put up 20 points and Madilyn Melton scored 12 and pulled down eight rebounds. 

Avila is back on its home court on Wednesday, taking on Ottawa at 5:30 from Mabee Fieldhouse.
