DOMINATING SECOND HALF GIVES WOMEN’S BASKETBALL FIFTH-STRAIGHT WIN

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – Avila outscored Oklahoma Wesleyan 44-23 in the second half en route to an 80-56 win for the program's fifth-straight victory on Wednesday night.

The win helped Avila to the program's first five-game winning streak since Nov. 2021.

It was also a season sweep for Avila over OKWU, their second-consecutive KCAC season sweep of 2026.

A competitive opening 20 minutes thanks to sharp shooting from the home Eagles as Oklahoma Wesleyan knocked down four three-pointers in the first quarter and Avila held just a three-point lead after two.

Avila pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring OKWU 22-9 out of the half, including ending the quarter on an 11-2 run over the final three-and-a-half minutes.

Leading by 16 entering the fourth quarter, Avila would never relinquish momentum, with a 24-point victory.

Marlie Wright recorded her third-consecutive double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds and freshman Talia Dyson recorded her fourth-straight double-figure scoring effort, putting up 17 points of her own.

Avila's defense once again played a prominent role in the win, forcing 17 Oklahoma Wesleyan turnovers and held the hometown Eagles to just 39 percent field goal shooting.

On the offensive end, Avila sank 18-of-19 free throws and recorded their fourth 80-point game in the last five outings.

Avila's 12 wins this season are their highest total since the 2021-22 campaign and are already the fifth-most single-season wins in the last 15 years. 

The Eagles will look to extend their winning streak to six on Saturday as the travel to Friends to take on the Falcons at 1 PM.
