TURNOVERS COST WOMEN’S BASKETBALL IN LOSS TO BETHEL

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Only two made three-pointers and 20 turnovers in the game cost Avila women's basketball on Saturday, losing to Bethel, 72-65.

The two KCAC rivals played a tight opening quarter, with the programs trading baskets throughout the first 10 minutes.

Another tight quarter followed in the second, with the Threshers taking a three-point halftime lead thanks to a last-second make from long range.

Bethel took momentum in the third quarter, going on a 10-0 run midway through the frame. Avila fought back to bring to within single digits again, trailing 57-49 entering the fourth quarter.

The Threshers kept the Eagles at a distance in the fourth quarter, never allowing Avila to get closer than seven and handing them a 72-65 loss.

Talia Dyson (16) and Madilyn Melton (15) were the leading Avila scorers, while Ava Hughes chipped in 11 off the bench.

With the regular season winding down, Avila sits at 12-12 with four games remaining. 

Avila hosts Saint Mary on Wednesday from Mabee Fieldhouse at 5:30 PM.
