BOWLING HAS HUGE WEEKEND AT COUGAR CLASH
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Three Eagle bowlers earned All-Tournament honors this weekend at the Columbia Cougar Clash as the program had one of its best performances of the season.
On Day One in mid-Missouri, Nicolas Garza finished second with an average of 219.8 and Garrett Messenger finished No. 11, just shy of the 200-mark with a 199.8 average.
The Eagle men finished in fourth place on the first day of competition, with a 3,817 total.
On the women's side, the Eagles wrapped up the opening day in second place, tallying 3,163 pins in total.
In the best performance of their young collegiate careers, Fiona West finished third, with a 191.75 score and Gabrielle Gallaher ended her Saturday in fifth place with a 188.5 score.
Gallaher, Garza and West each recorded All-Tournament honors after their performances in Columbia this weekend.
During bracket play on Sunday, the Eagle men wrapped up their weekend with a second-place finish losing two games to one to Ottawa.
"All three teams worked well together. It was a good, team weekend," said head coach Paul Wolf. "A lot of good communication, which is something that was lacking, and they pulled it together."
Additionally, as a team in the 16 Baker games, the men wrapped up the weekend with an average of 188.19.
In their 16 Baker games, the Avila women finished with a 167.3 average.
With three All-Tournament selections, head coach Paul Wolf and his men's and women's programs have momentum heading into the second semester. The Eagles' next outing will be at home, hosting the Eagle Invitational on January 24 and 25.
"It was a productive first half of the season," noted Wolf. "This performance gets us ready for our push in the second half and postseason. It gives us momentum going into our home event. It's going to be a very strong field and we're excited."
