TIA WILSHER NAMED KCAC WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Laying the groundwork in the inaugural season of Avila tennis, Tia Wilsher has been named the KCAC’s Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced today.
“This is a great honor and I am very proud of and excited for Tia,” said Avila head coach Jon Renberger. “Saturday’s matches got our program off to a great start and her performance was a huge part of that. She dominated the doubles match and came from behind to win the team-clinching singles match in a third-set tiebreak. This is a very cool award and a wonderful way to start the Avila tennis program.”
After the first spring competition in the history of Avila tennis, the Eagles have their first Player of the Week honoree. With Wilsher’s help over the weekend against local rival Baker, the Eagles women's team beat the Wildcats 5-2.
Wilsher, the freshman from Plymouth, Mich., put up an outstanding performance on Saturday versus Baker, winning her doubles match, 6-3 with Alaeyah Chleborad.
In her singles match, Wilsher won 2-6, 6-1, (11-9). Wilsher’s singles victory was a comeback as she won the third-set tiebreak 11-9 after being down 5-2 earlier in the set.
Wilsher and the Eagles will be back in action in Nebraska on Feb. 28 and March 1 as the Eagles take on Hastings and Doane.
