TENNIS GETS FALL SEASON OFF TO STRONG START AT KCAC INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
LINDSBORG, Kan. – Serving up its second season in its return to Avila, the Eagle tennis program laid a strong foundation for the upcoming campaign this weekend at the KCAC Fall Individual Championships at Bethany College.
On Friday's opening day on the women's side, Danielle Jean-Louise and Emma Koenigseder won their singles matches, setting the table for the final day of competition on Saturday.
On Day Two of the KCAC Individual Championships, the Eagles won eight total matches, including both men's and women's No. 1 singles and both men's No. 1 and 2 doubles.
In No. 1 singles, 11th-seeded Kylee Bragaw picked up a pair of wins over No. 6 Rachel Chaney (Evangel) and No. 10 Mia Rojas (St. Mary), while 12th-seeded Axel Scott on the men's side secured a victory over No. 13 Drake Lowe (Southwestern).
Back on the women's No. 2 bracket, No. 9-seeded Jean-Louis wrapped up win over No. 8 Corina Salas of Kansas Wesleyan. On the No. 3 bracket, 12th-seeded Lily Hopson won two matches against No. 5 Carlotta Klee (Friends) and No. 9 Cylie LaTourell (Sterling).
The Men's No. 1 doubles team of Axel Scott and Daniel Lozano picked up two wins over the sixth and 10th-seeded pairs, while the No. 2 doubles team of Hayden Carillo and Brendan Honn got a victory over the fifth-seeding pairing from Kansas Wesleyan.
Both programs will be back on the court this weekend for the ITA Fall Championships in Salina, Kan., on Friday and Saturday.
