TENNIS HAS BIG DAY AT SOUTHWESTERN
WINFIELD, Kan. – In the midst of one of the busiest stretches of the season, Avila tennis had a huge day on Saturday as the men defeated Southwestern, 7-0, and the women tied the Moundbuilders, 3-3.
Both squads were dealing with injuries and roster issues, but Jon Renberger's programs made quite the statement on Saturday.
The men had a perfect day, winning all seven matches, including a 6-1 #1 and #2 doubles sweep from Axel Scott and Daniel Lozano at #1 and Hayden Carillo and Brendan Honn at #2.
In #1 singles, Scott won 6-0, 6-1, Lozano followed that up with a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
Carillo took care of business with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #3, while Honn used a tiebreaker to win 5-7, 6-2, 10-2.
Rounding out at #5 was Ben Drinkwater, who dominated 6-1, 6-0.
A quieter day with a 3-3 tie for the Eagle women with a #1 doubles win from Emma Koenigseder and Alaeyah Chleborad winning 7-5.
On the singles side, Koenigseder won 6-1, 6-3 at #1 and Chleborad dominated again, winning in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
Avila lost three points due to roster issues, but still picked up three solid points on Saturday.
The Avila men are back in action on Monday at home versus Ottawa from the Plaza Tennis Center at 2 PM.
