Jon Renberger is entering his second season as the head coach of Avila’s men’s and women’s tennis programs in 2025-26.

Restarting a program in its first season returning as an Avila varsity sport in 2024-25, Renberger’s Eagles had a tremendous growing season with plenty of positives as the program begins its second season.

Under Renberger’s tutelage, Robert Davies (March 10) and Tia Wilsher (Feb. 17) were named KCAC Tennis Players of the Week early in the first season.

In the program’s first spring match, the Avila women picked up a win over Baker in February – the first of three victories on the season – to get the program started on the right foot.

One of the highlights of the Avila season was Danielle Jean-Louis’ performance at home versus Evangel fighting back to win 5-7, 7-6, 10-7 in a two-hour super-tiebreaker.

Renberger came to Avila with 33 years of tennis head coaching experience as well as a professional certification from the United States National Tennis Association.

Just weeks after graduating from the University of Kansas, Jon Renberger, at 22, became the head men's tennis coach at Ottawa University in 1990, and he later served as the head tennis coach at as Saint Mary College in Leavenworth, Kan., in 1995, where he originated the women's program and coached the men's team. As a head coach, his teams have won numerous league titles, regional titles, and top-three state finishes. He coached three singles champions, each an All-American, as well as a doubles championship team. His coaching honors include being named Lawrence Public Schools Girls’ Coach of Year for 2001-02 and 2007-08, State of Kansas Overall Girls’ Coach of the Year in 2002, the National Federation of State High School Association’s Kansas Girls’ Tennis Coach of the Year in 2003, Kansas 6A boys’ Coach of the Year in 2012, NAIA Champions of Character Nominee in 2014, and the All-Olathe School District and Sunflower League Coach of the Year in 2021 and 2022. He was also the head tennis professional at Lake Quivira Country Club from 2017-18 and served on the Kansas Tennis Coaches Association State Board from 2012-2022.

Renberger and his wife, Dionne, reside in Blue Springs, Mo.
