Bio

The 2025-26 season marks Marylyn Mozena’s fifth year in charge of the Avila women’s volleyball program.

Mozena’s Eagles increased their year-over-year win total in 2024-25, including four more home victories in 2024 compared to 2023. The season was highlighted by Maddie Jones’ All-KCAC Third Team selection. Jones’ all-conference nod was Avila volleyball’s first since the 2022-23 season.

Joining Jones with a KCAC honor was sophomore Sophia Giorgio, who was named the KCAC Defender of the Week for the week of October 13-20. Giorgio’s selection was women’s volleyball’s first KCAC Player of the Week since 2021.

In addition to Jones and Giorgio’s on-court recognitions, Avila volleyball had six members of its roster named to the 2024 Fall Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes list, the second-highest total among all Avila fall sports.

In 2023-24, Mozena and the Eagles finished with a 7-20 record and a first-round exit in the KCAC Tournament, marking the third-straight season with a conference tournament berth.

The 2022-23 season was Mozena’s second at Avila, where the Eagles picked up 14 victories, including a pair of three-match winning streaks.

Avila volleyball had a pair of individual honorees in 2022-23, with D’Ovion Williams being named All-KCAC First Team and Abby Blake selection to the All-KCAC Third Team.

Mozena’s first season in charge at Avila saw the Eagles record up eight wins with a KCAC Tournament appearance. Mozena helped coach D’Ovion Williams to an All-KCAC Second Team selection in her first season at Avila.

Mozena came to Avila after four years at Weeping Water (Neb.) High School from 2018-21.

A three-year volleyball and basketball player at Bellevue (Neb.) University, Mozena was an NAIA All-Academic Selection in 2016 and a Champions of Character selection in 2015.

A 2021 graduate of the University of Nebraska-Omaha, Mozena received her Master’s degree from Clemson University in 2025.
