USM HITS THREE HOME RUNS, TAKES DOWN AVILA BASEBALL
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Wrapping up a set of four games in three days against two conference opponents, Avila baseball was unable to overcome three Saint Mary home runs on Tuesday afternoon at The Z, losing 6-4.
The Eagles got on the board first in the bottom of the third with an RBI single from Zach Dillman, but Saint Mary's Daniel Martinez started the Spire offense in the top of the fourth, hitting a solo shot over the right field wall before adding an RBI single in the sixth.
Dillman recorded another RBI single in the seventh and was followed up by an RBI double from Ricky Dober as Avila tied the game up.
Martinez hit his second home run of the game in the eighth and three batters later, the Spires sent another ball over the fence to score two.
Avila got a run back in the ninth but Saint Mary closed the door with the 6-4 win.
Dillman went 3-4 in the game with two RBI, Ricky Dober went 2-5 with a pair of RBI while Jack Virden scored two of Avila's four runs
The Eagles have two days off before beginning a three-game set at Ottawa beginning on Friday afternoon at 1 PM. Avila and Saint Mary will play another single game back at The Z, next Tuesday, March 4 at 2 PM.
