BASEBALL BOUNCES BACK TO SPLIT WITH TABOR

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After a rough 12-2 loss in the first game, Cashen Schranz and Avila baseball were able to bounce back and split the doubleheader with Tabor on Sunday, picking up a 4-2 victory in the second game.

Tabor used a seven-run first inning and five more runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take care of game one, handing Avila a 12-2 loss.

Out of the bullpen in the opener, Zach Zwicky was able to stop the bleeding and pitch three shutout innings to keep the Bluejays at bay.

A big loss in the opening game of a three-game set did not deter the Eagles, as the team got strong starting pitching to bounce back in game number two.

Between the two teams in the second game, there were six runs scored, all coming on two-run home runs.

The first runs of the game came at the earliest possible time for Avila.

In the home half of the first, Tyler King opened the game off with a double and came around to score on a Zach Dillman homer.

Two batters, two runs for Avila.

Tabor hit their home run in the third inning to tie the game, but the tied scoreline would not last for long.

Landon Vahle got on base with a single in the bottom half of the inning to set the table for Jack Virden, as it was the senior's turn to send a ball over the wall for the second Avila two-run home run of the day.

Through three, Avila led 4-2.

6.2 dominant innings on the mound from Cashen Schranz helped Avila split the Sunday doubleheader. Schranz nearly had a complete game before walking two batters in the seventh. Aidan Johnson came on in relief, getting a quick strikeout to pick up the save and the 4-2 Avila victory.

The two teams will be back in action on Monday for the third game of the series. First pitch from The Z is at 12 PM. Avila will then host Southwestern for a single game on Tuesday and three with Sterling on April 11 and 12.
