OFFENSE HELPS BASEBALL DEFEAT SOUTHWESTERN TO WIN THIRD-STRAIGHT
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – One day after putting up 17 runs against Tabor, the Avila offense scored 12 runs on Tuesday versus Southwestern, defeating the Moundbuilders 12-6.
Avila's scoring began in the bottom of the first on a bases-loaded walk from Will Clark and Ricky Dober scoring the next at-bat on a passed ball.
Southwestern put up three in the fourth inning on a pair of RBI singles and an RBI groundout, but with an offense as hot as Avila's, the Eagles answered right back with a JJ Stubblefield solo home run in the bottom of the inning.
Through four innings, the score was tied at three.
The Moundbuilders scored on a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning, but it was the same old story: Avila answered back with a huge scoring output in the bottom half of the inning.
The first six Eagles in the sixth inning reached base. Avila's first two runs of the sixth came on an error and a wild pitch. Landon Vahle kept the line moving with an RBI double and was followed up by a run-scoring single from Dober.
Jack Virden brought Vahle around to score on a sacrifice fly. Dober would then steal second base, advance to third on a fly out and cross home plate on another Southwestern wild pitch. The six-run sixth inning gave Avila a 9-4 lead.
Southwestern put up another run in the seventh, but Avila answered back with three more on RBIs from Tyler King, Zach Dillman and Dober.
In total on Tuesday, Avila's 12 runs came on just six base hits, but the Eagles stole five bases and walked 13 times while seven different Avila batters scored a run.
Avila will look to make it four wins in a row this weekend as they host Sterling for three games. First pitch on Friday from The Z is at 2 PM.
