OFFENSE NOT ENOUGH AS BASEBALL LOSES MAKEUP TO KWU

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Despite eight runs scored and a pair of home runs, Avila baseball lost to No. 19 Kansas Wesleyan on Tuesday, 17-8, in a makeup game previously scheduled for Feb. 20.

The Eagles tied it at two after the second inning, before the Coyotes put up five more in the next two innings.

In the bottom of the fourth, JJ Stubblefield hit his third two-run homer in as many days to cut the KWU lead to 7-4.

Kansas Wesleyan scored eight in the fifth and one each in the sixth and seventh to finalize their offense on the day.

Avila made a strong effort in the bottom of the seventh, scoring four times.

A three-run home run from Dylan Atherton scored Joey Reichmuth and Caden Stillwell before Stubblefield recorded his third RBI of the day, scoring Emmanuel Ealey on a single down the right field line.

That was all the offense Avila managed in the seventh, falling to the top-20 opponent.

Avila will play their seventh game in six days when they travel to Benedictine on Thursday for a 2 PM first pitch.
