BASEBALL LOSES IN EXTRAS TO YORK

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Another late lead slipped away for Avila baseball on Sunday, with the Eagles losing to York, 13-9 in 10 innings.

Avila got four early runs in the first inning from back-to-back home runs from Caden Stillwell (two-run) and Dylan Atherton, followed by an RBI double from Aidan Johnson.

After one, the Eagles led 4-0.

York put up four in the fifth and sixth to tie the game.

A Vinny Neilson sac fly in the bottom of the sixth put the Eagles ahead, 5-4 before York tied it again in the top of the seventh.

Over the next two innings, RBI from Johnson, Stillwell, Atherton and a run-scoring double play put Avila up 9-5 as Avila looked to close the door the ninth.

Beginning in the bottom of the ninth, the Avila bullpen surrendered eight unanswered runs and lost in 10 innings, 13-9.

Avila is back at The Z on Wednesday versus Saint Mary for a single game beginning at 2 PM.
