MEN’S VOLLEYBALL OPENS NEW ERA WITH FIRST TWO MATCHES

PARKVILLE, Mo. – Re-starting the program and entering a new area of Avila men's volleyball, the Eagles lost a pair of games to No. 8 Park and Morningside on Friday afternoon as part of the Pirate Invitational.

In the opening game of the Mekenna Clugston era, Avila lost in three sets, 25-10, 25-21, 25-6 to a top-10 program.

Avila fought tough as they got the program started, keeping it to within two in the opening set before Park went on a run to take the opening frame.

The Eagles stayed tough in the second, holding a 19-18 lead late before Park ended the set on a 7-2 run to go up 2-0 before handling the third set.

Avila was back on the court two hours later against Morningside, performing solidly, but ultimately falling 25-11, 25-21, 25-18.

The second set versus Morningside was Avila's best of the day, leading early and keeping it close for the remainder.

Against Morningside, Alan Uncal-Ramirez recorded 14 assists, while Sebastian Rodriguez and Sebastian Williams each led the Eagles with nine kills.

Jump-starting the program with a freshman-led roster, Avila will look to continue to lay a solid foundation for the remainder of the season and will be back on the court on January 30 at Southwest Baptist at 6 PM.
